John "Jack" M. Burke, 81, of Woodbridge, passed away peacefully at his home, Tuesday, July 4, 2023.  Born January 7, 1942 in Perth Amboy, NJ, he was the son of the late Patrick and Della (Fox) Burke.

Jack was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Perth Amboy in 1960.  Following high school, Jack proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps., completing his service at Parris Island, South Carolina and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  After fulfilling his military services, Jack enrolled in the New Jersey Institute of Technology.  He dedicated his professional career to the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union # 9 of Englishtown, NJ, as a proud member for over 50 years.

Jack fully enjoyed his retirement and spent time travelling and visiting with cherished friends and family across the country.  He is preceded in death by his sister, Marie Patricia Thompson, his niece Maura Thompson and his sister-in-law, Patricia T. Burke.  He is survived by his brother, Dr. Robert T. Burke, his niece, Dr. Alanna T. Burke, his nephews, Kevin T. Burke, Connell T. Burke, Neal Thompson and Jeff Thompson, among other extended family and friends both here and abroad whom he loved so dearly. Jack was a lover of the beach, with a special affinity for the shores of New Jersey and North Carolina.  He carried with him a lifetime love and knowledge of all sports, with a special place in his heart for his  beloved NY/NJ teams.  He was a Lifetime Member of the Basilone Detachment Marine Corps. League and an active and loyal member of the American Legion, Clara Barton Post #324.

He never met a stranger. Every person in the world, to him, was just a friend he had not yet met. He always saw the good in people.  His jovial spirit, gentle nature, overwhelming kindness and brilliant conversation will forever be missed and never forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning July 18, 2023, at 10:00 AM from Flynn and Son Funeral, Fords. Interment will follow at the Clover Leaf Park Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Basilone Detachment Marine Corps. League, C/O Janet Misak 55 Gordon Avenue Fords, NJ 08863, in memory of Jack, would be greatly appreciated.
