Joan Elizabeth Pollak, passed away on March 23, 2012 peacefully at her daughter's home in Beachwood, NJ. She was 75.
Born and raised in Carteret, she was one of eleven children to Stephen and Julia Sisko who had emigrated here from Hungary. She had also resided in Parma, OH, from 1964 until 1975 when she relocated to Menlo Park Terrace. She had worked as a keypunch operator for Boyle-Midway in Cranford.
Her character was one of strength, nurturing, and dependability. She was deeply rooted in her beliefs and eager to teach others who were willing to learn by sharing all of which she knew. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and crafts. No one ever left her house hungry. Her attention to detail and her selfless need to provide comfort and joy left a permanent imprint on those around her, creating many lasting memories for those to savor. She took pleasure in pleasing everyone, and in turn was adored by all. Even having but one child, she was cherished and embraced as a mother to many, and loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was a treasure and will surely be missed.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Pollak; parents: Stephen and Julia Szotak Sisko; sisters: Julia Mudra, Mary Katko, Ann Plisko; and brothers: Stephen, Joseph, and baby Nicholas Sisko.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Barbara Trevena of Beachwood; two grandchildren: Courtney Rae, and Laurel Brooke; her sister, Theresa Baker of Spring Hill, FL; and brothers: Frank and Nicholas Sisko of Carteret, and Ernest Sisko of South Plainfield. She is also survived to numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 26, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. from the Flynn & Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church, Fords. Cremation will take place privately. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 pm.
