Jean L. Banta, 94, of Carteret, passed away on May 19, 2020, at JFK Medical Center. She was born on May 7, 1926 in Washington D.C. Jean was a homemaker. She graduated from Newark High School Class of 1943. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's RC Church in Carteret. Jean enjoyed playing bingo and going to Atlantic City.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard P. Banta in 2003; two brothers, Perry H. Cooke Jr. and James Cooke; and two sisters, Evelyn Cooke and Rose Mary Cooke.

Jean is survived by four sons, James Banta, and his wife, Jamie, of Fords; Michael Banta, and his wife Roxanne, of Sun Lakes, AZ; Robert Banta, and his wife, Cindy, of Tinmath, CO; Richard C. Banta, and his wife, Grace Ann, of Howell Twp.; and three grandchildren, Christopher, Jackson, and William.
