Jay J. Ziznewski, 75, of Holmdel, passed away peacefully at his home on December 13, 2024. He was born in Perth Amboy, NJ where he lived until moving to Holmdel in 1994.

After graduating from Perth Amboy High School, Jay attended the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated with honors as a member of the class of 1970.  He then went on to earn his Juris Doctor at Seton Hall University.

After passing the New Jersey bar exam, Jay served as an Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor and Special Deputy Attorney General. In 1979 he joined the law firm Toolan, Abbott, Ziznewski, & Hollander. He served as law director, municipal attorney, and corporation counsel for the City of Perth Amboy.  In 1994, he became a shareholder of Wilentz, Goldman, & Spitzer.

While at Notre Dame, Jay lettered in both football and basketball, and was an avid supporter of both teams as well as the women's basketball team after graduation. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and Giants, through the good and bad.

Jay was a beloved father and grandfather (Poppy) and was always quick with a bad pun or dad joke to make his family smile or groan. He enjoyed countless long-lasting friendships and found great fulfillment through involvement in the community. He was a member and leader of numerous civic and charitable organizations, particularly the Middlesex County 200 Club.

Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rosalie Ziznewski and his brother, Joseph Ziznewski.

Jay is survived by his two sons, Justin K. Ziznewski (Laura), and Kevin Ziznewski; his two brothers, Gary and Curt Ziznewski; his three grandchildren, Landon, Olivia, and Lawson; and many nieces and nephews.

He will be missed beyond measure.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 10 AM at Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords.

Interment will follow in Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy.
