Jay Milton
Goldberg
October 14, 1934 – February 24, 2024
Jay Milton Goldberg, 89, of Monroe Township passed away on February 24, 2024 at Old Bridge Medical Center, Old Bridge, NJ. Jay spent most of his young life in Camden, NJ with his parents Louis and Rae and his older sister Shirley. Shortly after he graduated from Camden High School, Jay began working for the Burroughs Corporation (now Unisys) but then was called to duty during the Korean War and was stationed in Fort Dix. He suffered a serious back injury during training and was honorably discharged. He returned to Unisys until retirement and ultimately earned a business certificate from Temple University and became an office manager, beloved by all the staff. After retirement, his great love for animals led him to volunteer for IAMS Corporation at their trade shows, and he volunteered his outstanding computer skills by helping many people of his generation learn how to use a computer for the first time. Jay had a beautiful baritone voice and enjoyed many years throughout his life of school choirs, cabaret shows at The Ponds in Monroe Township and at The Chelsea where he lived for the past two years. Jay was the epitome of "mensch" to all who knew him. He was funny, sweet, adored animals (including his cat Simon) and both loved and hated sports like a typical Phillies fan.
Jay is survived by his wife Marilyn Goldberg of 43 years, his stepchildren, Ellen Silver (Adam) and Howard Weinstein (Wendy) and his step granddaughters Marli, Jordyn, Abby and Alyssa; his daughters Lois Kraus (Scott) and Suki Karp (Michael) (from his first marriage to Marjorie Goldberg of Hillside, NJ) and his four grandchildren Ben, Becca, Sammy and Jake. Jay is also survived by his nephew Hank Abrams, his wife Helene and their children Nina, Stephanie and Eric, and by too many friends to count.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 424 East Avenue, Perth Amboy. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery at 1098 Woodbridge Center Dr., Woodbridge.
