Obituary

Jane Elizabeth (nee: Odekirk) Butieb, 94, of Perth Amboy, NJ, passed peacefully at her daughter's home in Perth Amboy, on Saturday, February 7, 2026.  She was the youngest daughter of the late John and Edith (Iverson) Odekirk.

Jane was born in Plymouth, Wisconsin, and had three older sisters, that preceded her in death, (Edith Windisch of Arkansas, Carol Negle of California and Barbara Kramer of Wisconsin.

Jane graduated from Plymouth High School in 1949. She then went on to Sheboygan County Normal School, a teacher's college where she earned a 2-year degree.  She finished her Bachelor of Arts degree at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.

Jane was a retired teacher who taught for over 40 + years.  She began her teaching career in a one room school house in Wisconsin where she taught grades K through 12.  She then went on to teach elementary school in Richland Washington and El Paso, Texas before embarking on a teaching career with the US State Department where she taught the children of US military personnel in Mainz, Germany and Sevilla, Spain.  During those years she traveled all around Europe including Turkey and North Africa.  While in Spain in the 1960's she met her husband  Abid Butieb who died in 1976.  Jane ended her teaching career at South Amboy Elementary School where she taught for over 25 years.

Jane was an accomplish pianist who love to sing, dance, read, paint, garden and go camping.  Jane was a member of the Perth Amboy Royal Garden Club, the Sons of Norway, and past treasurer of The Widows and Widowers Organization of South River, NJ. that had monthly dinner dances.

Jane was very philanthropic and donated to many different causes especially those helping women and children. Jane loved children and was a great friend, mother, sister and aunt.  She always made a point to call her friends and family weekly and often just popped on by for a visit.

Jane was a devote Christian, who belong to the Church of God Seventh Day, however she attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hightstown for many years.  She was an advent reader of the Bible and read it many times.  She often said if everyone would just follow the 10 Commandments the world would be a better place.

Jane has been a resident in Perth Amboy for over 50 years. She leaves behind, her beloved daughter, Christina Butieb-Bianco and her husband Umberto, of Perth Amboy as well as many nieces and nephews who are scattered throughout the US.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 from 5 to 7 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 424 East Ave. Perth Amboy, NJ 08861.

Interment, will follow at a later date and Jane will be laid to rest in Greenbush Cemetery in Greenbush, Wisconsin.
