James S. Wales, Jr., MD, 85, died Tuesday, May 28, 2014 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge Division.

He was born in Scotch Plains, raised and educated (K-12) in Plainfield and lived in Edison for 20 years before moving to Old Bridge, NJ. He was a graduate of Lincoln University, PA and Howard University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C. After serving as a physician in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Wales opened a practice in Perth Amboy, NJ where he dedicated over 38 years as a healer and advocate for his patients and their families.

Dr. Wales served on staff at Perth Amboy General Hospital (now Raritan Bay Medical Center) and as medical director of several nursing home facilities, including, Amboy Care Center, Oakview Nursing Home, the NJ Veterans Memorial Home in Edison and Summerhill Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, former chairman of the Edison Housing Authority, and past-president of the Kiwanis Club of Perth Amboy.

Upon his retirement, he continued to enjoy his favorite pastimes of golf, tennis and playing bridge.

He is predeceased by his parents, Helen (nee Cohen) and James S. Wales, Sr. and three sisters, Patricia Bailey, Jacqueline Wormely, and Virginia Jackson.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Wales of Edison, three sons James of Charlotte, NC, David of Troy, NY and Donald of Albany, NY, a sister, Marilyn Owens of Baltimore, MD, his longtime companion, Anita Martin of Monroe Township, NJ and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 2 at 11:00 a,m, at Flynn & Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords., NJ.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m.and 7-9 at the funeral home on Sunday, June 1.
