James R. Schleck, 71, of Somerset, passed away July 3, 2015, at home. He was born January 21, 1944 in Newark, NJ. Jim was a graduate of St. Benedict's Prep, in Newark, and of Villanova University, with a degree in chemical engineering, and received his MS from NJIT. He worked for Exxon in Linden, before founding Jame Fine Chemicals, Inc., in Bound Brook, in 1970. The company later became JFC Technologies, which he sold in 2011. Jim held several patents in the chemical industry. He had a passion for painting, and collecting art. He enjoyed the music of the Beatles and the Doors. He also loved going to the NJ shore and spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Richard C. and Jean Mitchell Schleck, and his long-time companion Roberta Griesmeyer Chiavaro.
He is survived by his son, James "Jamie" Schleck, and his wife, Pamela, of Metuchen; daughter, Susan Schleck Kleiner, of Metuchen; six grandchildren: John, Grace, Luke, and Claire Schleck, and Maggie and Amy Kleiner; brothers Thomas Schleck, of West Caldwell, and Richard Schleck, of Caldwell; sister Mary Jean DeFeo, of Corolla, NC; and many nieces and nephews. He was formerly married to Marybeth F. Connolly.
Visitation will be at the Flynn & Son Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen, NJ 08840, on Monday July 6, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will begin Tuesday, July 7, 9:45 at the funeral home, followed by at 10:15 Funeral Liturgy at St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen. Cremation will be private.
