October 27, 1951 – April 26, 2024
James M. "Jimmy" Kovy passed away at the age of 72 on April 26, 2024 in the Venetian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in South Amboy.
Jim was born in Bayonne and graduated from Hudson Catholic High School, and St. Peter's College in Jersey City. He had an aptitude for math and worked as an accountant for many years. Jim liked fishing, going on several fishing trips off the Jersey shore with his son James and also enjoyed bowling, belonging to several bowling leagues over the years. Jim was an avid sports fan, loved the Mets and New York Giants. He coached Bayonne Little League for 20 years, Bayonne PAL basketball team, and after moving to Fords,New Jersey, coached Fords Clara Barton Little League. He loved animals, especially his dogs Buster, Tyson, Sophie and Tanner. Jim will be remembered for his great sense of humor, always had a smile on his face and loved to tell "one-liners". Jim and Phyllis were a fun loving couple and enjoyed many happy times with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his dear wife Phyllis in 2018. He is survived by his son James A Kaminski; his sisters Susan and Maryann Kovy; and brother Thomas Kovy. He also is survived by his nieces and nephews: Wayne, Michael, Christopher, Desiree, Renee, and Melissa. Thomas passed in 1988.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords from 4:00pm - 7:00pm, and where services will begin on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 10:00am. A Funeral Liturgy will immediately follow at 10:30am in Our Lady Of Peace Catholic Church, Fords. Jimmy will be laid to rest next to his wife Phyllis in Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations may be to the ASCPA ( www.aspca.org/donate) , or the Kidney Foundation ( www.kidney.org ).
