James J. Britton, 86, of Edison, passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 8, 2015. Born in Trenton, and formerly of Carteret, he had resided in Edison the last 58 years. Mr. Britton graduated Carteret High School, with the Class of 1946 and served in the U.S Navy aboard the USS Hambleton DMS. He retired in 1990 after 27 years as a Chemical Operator with Amerchol Chemical of Edison.
Jim was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords, an avid fisherman, enjoyed bowling, loved gardening and trips to casinos but most of all, he loved and enjoyed his family and they loved and cherished him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Mary (Choban) Britton; his brother, Benjamin Britton; and sisters, Marianne Howard, Alice Cothern, and Helen Barlow.
Jim leaves behind, the love of his life, his beloved wife of 64 years, Alice (Davala) Britton; his son, James and his wife Beth, of Marlboro; his three daughters: Christina Gagliardi and her husband, Frank, of Edison; Susanne Miller and her husband Walter, of Colonia; and Lisa Weber and her husband Frank, of Jackson; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, John Britton; and a sister, Betty Jane Edwards.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 13, 2015, from 2-4 pm and 7- 9 pm at the Flynn and son Funeral Home , 23 Ford Ave. Fords NJ 08863. Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. from the Flynn and son Funeral Home, followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Church. Interment will follow privately.
