James Robert Downey 94, of Metuchen, entered into eternal rest Friday August 3, 2012 at his home. He was born in Newark and has resided in Metuchen for the past 52 years.

James was a shipping and receiving clerk with Krementz Co. in Newark, for 33 years before retiring in 1982. He served his country in the Army during WW II, in the Spearhead Division, and was a purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Trenton. During his pleasure time he enjoyed gardening and bowling.

James is survived by Jeanne M. Collins Downey, his wife of 52 years, his daughters Carolyn Jeanne Williams; of Rising Sun Md., and Donna Downey Smith and her husband David; of Metuchen, his four grandchildren Matthew, Sarah, Joshua, and Rachel, and his siblings Robert, Edward, and Ruth E. Downey.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 8, 2012 at 10 am at the Flynn and Son/ Koyen Funeral Home 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen. Interment will be in Shoreland Memorial Park in Hazlet. Visitation is Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
