Irene
Popik
d. May 16, 2017
Irene Popik, 89, of Templeton, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2017, at Wachusett Manor after a period of declining health. She was born on July 13, 1927, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Guback) Deliman. She grew up in Perth Amboy, where she met her husband, Michael Popik, Jr. After marrying in 1948, they moved to Metuchen, New Jersey, where she resided until 2005 when she moved to Templeton to be closer to her son and his family.
Irene was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Greek Catholic Church, in Perth Amboy, as well as a long time active member of the Violet Rebekah Lodge in Perth Amboy. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to various IOOF functions throughout the country. In addition to traveling, Irene loved eating out and discovering new restaurants. In her younger years she took a millinery course and enjoyed designing and making hats for herself and all the ladies in her family, especially her young nieces. An Easter never passed without a new creation. After moving to Templeton, she enjoyed her time and travels as a member of the Templeton Seniors and the Golden Agers of Templeton.
Her husband, Michael, predeceased her in 1983. She is survived by her son, Dr. Michael G. Popik, and his wife, Jean, of Westminster, and her pride and joy, granddaughters, Jessica and Justine. She also leaves her brother, Michael, of Springfield, VA, her aunt, Helen Murafski, of Woodbridge, NJ, two sisters-in-law, Anne Wanca of South Plainfield, NJ, and Virginia Popik, of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, two special nieces, Laura Mularz and Nancy Gregowicz, and their families of Manalapan, NJ, as well as several other nieces and nephews and cousins . She was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Kurta.
