Obituary of Irene Mary Matika


Irene Mary Matika, 84, of Edison, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Brighton Gardens in Edison. Mrs. Matika was born in Perth Amboy to the late Andrew and Mary (Racz) Bernai. She was raised in Perth Amboy and was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School, Class of 1952. Irene then resided in Avenel and Iselin before moving to Edison in 1974.
She was employed as an office manager for an architectural firm in North Brunswick for many years prior to her retirement in 2009.
She enjoyed Rutgers Football, the NFL, the Mets and spending time at the Sewaren and Perth Amboy waterfronts.
In addition to her parents, Irene was also predeceased by her husband John S. Matika in 2006.
Surviving are her two sons: Bryan Matika and wife Angie of Metuchen, and Kevin Matika and wife Susan of Old Bridge, and her brother: George Bernai and wife Alice of Deltona, FL.
Funeral services will be held Thursday 10:00 am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, Inc., 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords. Interment will follow in the Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery also in Fords. Visitation hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 6 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834-1365.
