Irene Mathiasen, 92, of Fords, passed away on May 18, 2025, at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was born on February 15, 1933, in Perth Amboy. Irene was a Homemaker and a Secretary for the Woodbridge Twp. Transportation Department. She was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School. Irene was a devoted wife and mother. She and her husband enjoyed taking trips to Crystal River, FL.

Irene was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Harold Mathiasen, in 2021; two late brothers, Charles and Michael Popovich; and a sister, Mary Trygar.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Mathiasen of Perth Amboy and Diane Kerekes and her husband, Erick, of Hazlet; a son, Gary Mathiasen, of Lawrence Twp.; four grandchildren: Jamie, and her fiancé, Nate; Melanie; Jessie; and Megan and her husband, Jared; a great-grandson, Jayden; and a sister, Ann Rockefeller, of Perth Amboy.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 10:00 am -11:00 am at the Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Alpine cemetery.
