Irene M. Free, age 95, of Edison, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2021.  Irene lived a wonderfully happy and engaged life.  She loved spending time with family and friends. Irene was as much in her element at large family gatherings as in a quiet conversation.  A hallmark of Irene was her positive outlook and always being appreciative of those around her and what she had.  Irene had a lifelong love of dancing and especially line dancing.  She loved to travel with family to just about anywhere.

Irene was born in Jersey City and lived in Edison for over 60 years and was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church.  Irene was predeceased by her husband Walter Thomas Free in 1998, her sister, Genevieve Dougherty, her brother, Lawrence Gallagher and her son-in-law Kevin Kiefer.

Irene is survived by her three children, Sharon Kiefer, Thomas Free and daughter-in-law Nancy, and Donald Free; her eight grandchildren, Todd Kiefer and his wife Mary, Scott Kiefer, Kathryn Free, Sara Free, Colette Free Davis and her husband Tyler, Margaret Free, Marie Free O'Farrell and her husband Mason and Thomas John Free; her great grandson, Clark Davis; and four brothers, James, Ronald, Robert and Raymond Gallagher.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 23rd from 6-9 PM at Flynn Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 24th, 2021 beginning at 9:30 AM for 10:00 AM prayers at Flynn Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Church, Fords at 10:30 AM .  Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen.
