Iren Yolan Szoke entered into eternal rest on March 5, 2011, at the Barbara E. Cheung Hospice at Roosevelt in Edison, New Jersey. She was 88.
Ms. Szoke was born in Perth Amboy. She lived in Clark, NJ, for 20 years before moving back to Perth Amboy when she retired. During her working years, she was employed by an electronics research firm in New York City as office and marketing manager.
Ms. Szoke is predeceased by her parents, Stephen and Julia Szoke; two sisters, Ethel Szoke and Olga Hinz; and her niece, Pamela Hinz Gooley. She is survived by her cousins: Arline Dubrow, Doris Bacsoka, James Bacsoka, and niece, Patricia Nicholson. There are several other cousins with no contact.
Iren was the Secretary of the Perth Amboy Chapter of the Deborah Heart and Lung Center. For many years, she was instrumental in producing the annual Deborah fundraiser ball and acting as the ball hostess. She was an active member of the Proprietary House of Perth Amboy, The Barron Arts Center of Woodbridge, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, The Village Light Opera Group in New York City, the Edison Chapter 3446 of AARP, the American Hungarian Foundation, and was a communicant of Our Lady of Hungary Church in Perth Amboy.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the Deborah Heart and Lung Center at 20 Pine Mill Road, Browns Mills, New Jersey 08015.
