Hugh "Red" Gallagher, Jr. 84, formerly of Fords, passed away on March 16, 2014 at Haven Hospice at JFKMedicalCenter. He was born in Newark and resided in Fords for over 65 years before recently moving to Edison.

Hugh was employed with Prudential Life Insurance in Newark as an Operating Engineer with Local 68 for 31 years, retiring in 1986.

He served with the US Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Hugh was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords, a member of the Holy Name , the Knights of Columbus and Iselin American Legion Post 471.

Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Doris (Sturm), his children; Hugh A. Gallagher III, Rosemary Chase, Nancy Simms, Susan Sacco, Kevin Gallagher, Maureen Pollock, and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 9:30 AM on March 22, 2014 at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, with a 10 AM funeral liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Church, Fords. Interment will follow at St.GertrudeCemetery, Colonia. Viewing will be Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
