Howard Clarence Korte 78 of Menlo Park Terrace, entered into eternal rest December 22, 2016 at Roosevelt Care Center in Edison.  He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, to Howard and Catherine Korte on July 4, 1938, and has resided here for the past 51 years.

He graduated Altoona Catholic High School in 1956, and then joined the army.  While stationed in West Berlin he met and married his wife bringing her back to Indiana so he could attend Purdue University.  He graduated in 1967 with a BS in Chemical Engineering, and shortly after moved the family to New Jersey.  He was a Chemical Engineer having a long and successful career at Exxon in Linden for 33 years before retiring in 1998.

Howard was first and foremost a family man who worked to take care of his wife, mother-in-law, and daughters, and was always involved most notably with the years of softball games, and high school marching band activities.  He also spent many years involved with the Jaycees, Junior Miss, as well as being a Scout Master.  His second love was golf.  You could find him most days, before his illness set in, playing the earliest round of golf possible at Tamarack Golf Course.

He leaves behind his dear wife of 57 years, Monika Merker Korte, his daughters Karen Zeher of Cary, NC, Susan Sengpiel of Marietta, GA, and Stephanie Trela and her husband Robert of Kendall Park, his six grandchildren, who lovingly called him Opa, two great grandchildren, sisters Catherine Raugh and Ruth Roland, and brother Stephen Korte.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday December 27, 2016 from 7-9 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords.  Funeral services and Interment services will be private.  In lieu of flowers contributions are requested to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
