Howard B. Courtney, 86, of Edison, passed away on March 28, 2015 at Willow Creek Rehabilitation and Care Center, Somerset, NJ. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Grover and Hazel (nee: Beyer) Courtney.
A veteran of WWII, he served 2 years in the Merchant Marines and 4 years in the Navy as Quarter Master. He was active with VFW Post 9111, South Brunswick, and was awarded National Aide-De-Camp 2006-2007.
He worked at Johnson & Johnson for 42 years. While there he served as President of Local 630 ACTW, AFL-CO for 4 years and served as Treasurer for 4 years. He also served as President of the Joint Board for 8 years and 1 year on the committee for a better New Brunswick, NJ.
He was a communicant of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Edison, NJ and formerly at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fords, NJ.
He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Virginia (nee: Callahan), his son David and his wife Eileen. Surviving is his daughter, Gail Gersley and her husband Alan; his grandsons, Bryan Ruckdeschel and his wife Toni, Christopher Courtney and his wife Jennifer and Kevin Courtney and his partner, Kristen Keich. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren, Timothy and Elizabeth Ruckdeschel, Evan, Tyler and Colin Courtney.
Arrangements are under the direction of Flynn and Son Funeral Home, Fords. Burial will be private.
