Honey Domenick (Kopf), 95, of Fords, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in the Bronx, as a first generation American, she moved to Jersey City in the 1940's. Once married, in 1949 to her sweetheart, Sam Domenick, they moved to Angola, Indiana while he attended Tri-State University. They made many friends there and enjoyed the birth of their firstborn, Steven before moving back east in 1953. In 1962, they settled in Fords, New Jersey where they continue to reside, living 3 doors down from her sister. They spent many vacations and holidays as a group. Over their 68 year marriage, they built a beautiful family and life. Honey was always in the customer service or sales profession, beginning with Tiffany's during World War II to being an entrepreneur by selling Kimberly knit suits out of her home while raising her 3 children. Honey attended Jersey City State College wanting to be a teacher, she was one at heart.
An avid sports fan, Honey watched and cheered on the New York Football Giants and the New York Yankees although her first love was the New York Baseball Giants. Once they moved to San Francisco, Honey had no interest in them and became a pinstripe fan. Honey and Sam's love of gambling led them to 11 cruises and multiple trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas with their best friends, Honey's sister Kit and Tony Trope. Honey, Sam, Kit, and Tony made up the excellent bowling team, the DT's and for many years planned all the bowling banquets. Honey and Kit had a standing Mah Jong game the lasted over the 55 years they lived in Fords, and nothing got in the way of that game. Honey was the manager of her daughter's softball teams, the Zebras and the Celtics and managed the umpiring for the Fords Youth Association Girls softball league. In her later years, Honey enjoyed Atlantic City with her husband, grandchildren, daughter, and always with her sister, sitting at the Let It Ride table for hours entertaining the dealers with stories and her quick wit.
Honey retired from Macy's in 1996 after almost 20 years in multiple departments. She was a volunteer for Haven Hospice in JFK Hospital and worked part time for Best Cruises until she fully retired in 2005. Honey spent years teaching her 7 grandchildren multiple card games, most notably Black Jack. Her love of her family was apparent in the time she spent with each member and the advice she would dispense to most. Her sense of humor and compassion attracted her many lifelong friends. She was unfiltered, sharing what everyone else was thinking and usually with a little twinkle in her eye and giggle.
Honey was predeceased by her parents, Stella and Jack Kopf, her beloved son, Steven and her brother-in-law Tony. She is survived by her husband Sam, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Michele of Wall Township, daughter Suzy of Freehold; daughter-in-law Elizabeth of Aberdeen, her sister Kit Trope of Fords, grandchildren Jeff and Jaymi, Domenick of Jackson, Karli, and Frank Valente of Howell; Kristina of Wall; Jennifer, Stephanie and Samantha, Domenick of Matawan; and Bryan and Stephanie Domenick of North Brunswick. She is also the proud great grandmother to Sadie, Angelina, Sophia, Gianna and Alexander Domenick; loved nephew Jack Trope; Nieces Arlene Schlott, Joyce DeSiena, Sharon Domenick; great nieces and nephews, loving cousins; and many wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday October 2, 2107 at 11 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords. Interment will be in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, in Woodbridge.
