Deacon Herminio Rivera Sr., passed away at the age of 78 on the morning of November 15, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. He joins his wife, Irene Rivera, and his daughter, Maribel Rivera now in Heaven.

Herminio was born August 6, 1943, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, and moved to NJ in 1960 to build a life here. He worked as a Building Inspector for many years and prior to that as a Machine Operator while also dedicating his life to the catholic church. Herminio faithfully served as a Deacon to Our Lady of Fatima for over 30 years. He baptized his grandchildren and great-grandson, Jaxon Rodriguez, at this very parish.

A faithful man, he devoted his life to God, his wife and his family. He loved selflessly, with a pure heart, caring hugs and a contagious smile. He was happy to take a step back to let his wife and his loved ones' shine. He stood in the background, content to be unseen as he knew more importantly, that his love was felt.

Feeling his love was like a quiet round of dominoes as he taught the ins and outs of the game, passing on his knowledge and passion to his children and grandchildren, his love was felt in every shuffle.

He led his life by example, and his family will forever remember his kindness and his love.

He leaves behind his sisters, Isaura, Nellie and Iris; and his brother, Efrain. His children: Herminio Rivera, Jr. and his wife, Janet; Diane Amaya and her husband, Juan Carlos; Daniel Rivera and his, wife, Robin; his grandchildren: Adriana, Jared, Demi, Justin, Ashley, Tyler, Joshua, Abigail; and his great-grandson, Jaxon.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 10:15 AM from Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords followed by an 11 AM Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Perth Amboy. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
