Obituary

Herbert L. Lipman, 74 of Barnegat Light, LBI died on December 4, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Perth Amboy he lived in Metuchen for 27 years before moving to Barnegat Light in May.

Herb was the son of the late Nathan Lipman, founder of the firm Lipman, Selznick & Witkowski (LSW). He joined the company in 1959 as a staff accountant and in 1962 became a partner. LSW then merged with Weiser Mazars Accountants, Edison where he was currently working. Internally, he has played a key role in the growth of the firm by his adherence to standards and quality and service. His leadership has built long-term account relationships.

He was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School Class of 1954. He then graduated Tufts University in 1958 and received a Master of Business Administration Degree from Rutgers University in 1960. He was a member of the American Institute of CPA's, New Jersey Society of CPA's. He also served on the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy appointed by Governor Whitman, and served as president for 3 years of his 8 years of service. He has served as a trustee of the New Jersey Society of CPA's, Chairman of State CPA Committees and as president of his local Middlesex-Somerset CPA Chapter. He was a member of the Raritan Bay Medical Center's Institutional Review Board and the RBMC Foundation Board as Treasurer. He was also the recipient of the Humanitarian Award at RBMC on October 27, 2007. He was a member of the Board of Director's of Middlesex County College Foundation, and trustee of Temple Beth Mordecia, Perth Amboy. He is a past trustee and officer of the Edison Jewish Community Center. His hobbies include reading, walking, playing golf and being a football fan, especially liked the Jets.

He is predeceased by his parents Nathan and Kate Lipman; and a brother Bernard Lipman.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years Janet (Savel) Lipman; two sons Robert Lipman of NH and Charles Burok of FL; two daughters Susan Henry and husband David of CT and Suzanne Smith and husband Robert of PA; six grandchildren Katie, Dylan, Tyler, Andrew, Daniel and Jessica; a sister-in-law Silvia Lipman; and a daughter-in-law Collene Burok.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 6, 2010 at 11 AM, from Temple Beth Mordecai, 224 High Street, Perth Amboy. Interment will be in Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy. Shiva will be held Monday following services and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at family's residence in Edison.
