Helen T. Van Der Zyde, 99, of Hopelawn, passed away surrounded by her family on May 1, 2024 at home. She was born in New York City on March 12, 1925. Helen was a Senior Staff Administrator for the United States Army Reserve in Edison. She was a world traveler, visiting all the continents except Antarctica. Helen loved history and was an avid reader.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Van Der Zyde, in 1981; two sisters, Mary McFadden and Frances Buonuicino; and a brother, Fred Eppinger.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Venezia Van Der Zyde, and her husband, Joseph Demmler, of West End, NC; a son, John Van Der Zyde, and his wife, Darlene, of Budd Lake; seven grandchildren: Joanna Mazzella, Morgan, Joseph, Matthew, and John Demmler, Jessica and Gabrelle Van Der  Zyde; three great grandchildren: Julian, Sophia, and Gigi.

Visitation will be at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863 on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 am in the Funeral home.

Interment will follow in Forest Green Memorial Park in Morganville.
