Helen Powell, 97, of Edison died Friday August 12, 2022, at home.

Helen was born in Derry Pennsylvania to the late John Lelo and Ann Ritzcovan. After receiving her high school diploma from French Town High School, she had a few odd jobs like working in a factory line for Mattel for many years,before her retirement. In her free time, Helen enjoyed art, she took a lot of joy in painting her creations and crocheting. Gardening was her passion, so much so that she was a member of the Gardening Club in Edison. She would sometimes use her veggies that she grew in her delicious home cooked meals.  She was also a member of her local Order of the Eastern Star. Helen was such a positive energy to be around, she will be dearly missed.

Helen is predeceased by her loving husband, James Leroy Powell and her son, John Powell. She is survived by her children, Suzanne Mroz and James Powell; her siblings, Anne Lelo, Gary Lelo, and Stephan Lelo; along with her favorite grandchildren, Nicole Mroz and Duncan Powell.

A visitation will be held on Thursday August 18, 2022, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue Metuchen, NJ 08840. A prayer service will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Metuchen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Helen's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
