Helen Lauritzen (Yuhasz), 89 passed away peacefully and gracefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Parker Home in Piscataway, N.J. Mrs. Lauritzen was born in Hopelawn, NJ, to the late John and Anna Yuhasz on October 27, 1929.
Helen met and married her beloved husband, the late Nels Lauritzen, Sr. in 1946. Together they made their home in Fords, NJ, New Port Richey, Florida, and Edison, NJ, before settling in Piscataway in 1974. Her husband preceded her in death in 1995.
Helen was a hardworking and dedicated employee, having worked at RCA in Rahway for over twenty years, as well as working at Chanel, Inc. in Piscataway for over 38 years, before retiring in 2015 at the age of 86. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Woodbridge for 59 years. She was a devoted wife and a strong example as a mother and grandmother who had deep love of God and dedication to family, solid in her faith, fun loving with a sharp wit and sense of humor, caring of others and a loyal friend to many.
Helen was very proud of her Hungarian heritage and shared many cultural traditions with her cherished family, especially during the holidays where she would bake dozens of her famous Hungarian cookies to distribute to family and friends. She travelled extensively throughout the United States; Helen especially enjoyed her annual weekend excursions to Nantucket, MA.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by her five brothers: John, Michael, Jeff, Stephen, and Alexander and two sisters: Margaret Sallinger and Anna Mandato.
Helen leaves a legacy of honesty, faithfulness and the value of hard work to her family. Helen is survived by her loving son, Nels (Susan) of Piscataway, N.J., her three cherished grandsons, Nels Lauritzen III (Sally); Erik Lauritzen; Christopher Lauritzen and her beautiful great-granddaughter, Noelia Mary.
She is also survived by her brother Julius Yuhas of Edison, and her sister Mary L. Jankola of South Amboy, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A life well lived is the most exquisite work of art, Helen was a masterpiece.
Funeral services will be held Friday 9:30am at Flynn and Sons Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue Fords. Followed by a church service at 10:00 am in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Edison. Interment will follow in the Cloverleaf Cemetery in Woodbridge. Visitation hours will be Thursday from 3pm to 7pm.
