Obituary

Helen Lancton Klawunn of Metuchen N.J. passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of Helen's life will be held at St. Luke's Church, 17 Oak Avenue, Metuchen, New Jersey, at 11 am on Monday, January 15, 2018.
Helen is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 61 years, Richard Frederick Klawunn, her three children, their spouses, and 10 grandchildren. Helen's husband and their family were the pride and joy of her life. Her children are Margaret Klawunn and her husband Rick Benjamin, Frederick Klawunn and his wife Theresa, Carol Klawunn Marraro and her husband Joseph Marraro. Her 10 grandchildren, who range in age from 25-17, are Forrest Klawunn, Nicholas Marraro, Cory Klawunn, Gil Benjamin, Luke Benjamin, Richard Marraro, Sarah Benjamin, Travis Klawunn, Courtney Marraro, and Kevin Marraro. As an only child herself, Helen was fully appreciative of her family and instilled that value in her children and grandchildren by creating annual events that marked each year with fun and good memories at the beach on Long Beach Island and skiing at Blue Mountain. She also imparted the value of education and delighted in the educational and career accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.

Helen was born on November 14, 1926 in Hillside, N.J. She graduated from Hillside High School at 16 years old because her teachers recognized her academic promise. Upon graduation, she was awarded a college scholarship to study Chemistry but as a young woman in her time, she was encouraged to pursue teaching or nursing instead which did not interest her. Helen was proud of the years she spent as a young professional in New York City working as an Executive Secretary for a pharmaceutical company. When her children were born, she devoted her time to raising them, but as they grew up, she went back to work to help support their college educations. Helen had a rewarding career working for Interim Health Care as a medical coordinator for over 25 years.

Helen was an active and committed member of St. Luke's Church in Metuchen. She volunteered with the women's group to make blankets for those in need and participated in the book group and Bible study.

For those desiring to make a donation in Helen's memory, donations can be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 17 Oak Avenue, Metuchen, N.J.
