Harold A. Mathiasen, 90, died Monday October 25, 2021, at JFK Medical Center in Edison.

Born at home in Fords to the late Eleanor Christensen and August Mathiasen, Harold attended Woodbridge high school, before he enlisted in the United States Airforce. During this time, he married the love of his life Irene Popovich, his wife of 70 years as of September.

Harold was a hard dedicated worker being a carpenter for the Northeast Carpenters Union and for the Woodbridge School district for 15 years before retiring. In his spare time, Harold enjoyed going to Florida, especially Crystal River. Hunting and fishing where his go to hobbies, but he was an exceptional stained-glass creator incorporating his pieces all around his home.

Harold is survived by his children, Karen Mathiasen, Gary Mathiasen, and Dianne Kerekes; his son-in-law, Erick Kerekes; his sister-in-law, Ann Rockafeller; four grandchildren, Jamie, Melanie, Megan, and Jessie; along with extended relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday October 29, 2021, from 10:30 a.m.  to 11:30 a.m. at Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Ave Fords, NJ 08863. Harold will be laid to rest at Alpine Cemetery in Perth Amboy following the visitation. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
