Obituary

Private services were held for Grace (nee: Martorelli) Samo, 98, of Edison, who passed peacefully, on Friday, April 3, 2020, at Care One at the Highlands, Edison, NJ.  Grace was born on April 7, 1921, in Union, NJ, and she resided in Edison since 1952.

She was a graduate of Woodcliff High School and attended a secretarial college in NYC.  Grace enjoyed her career as an Executive Secretary for the CEO of the Ronson Corporation in Woodbridge for 30 years, before retiring. She was a long-time communicant of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Fords.

She is predeceased by her first husband, Emil E. Anderson, who died on April 9, 1963; her second husband, James Howard (Bud) Samo, Jr., who died on April 4, 2009; her parents, Antonio and Genoeffa Martorelli; as well as her six siblings -- brothers Rocco, Frank, Salvatore, and Louis Martorelli and sisters Josephine Dunn, and Rose Oberst.  And her beloved horse, Jamie.

She leaves behind her equally beloved stepchildren from her marriage to Bud Samo -- Duncan Samo and his wife, Teri, and Barbara Caldwell and her husband, Larry; her grandchildren Scott Samo and David and Carl Evans; and her great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Samantha, Jack, and Andrew Evans.  She also leaves her nieces: Genevieve Blanchard, Susan McGarey, Vickie Martorelli, and Toni Martorelli; nephews: Charles, Alan, Frank and Anthony Martorelli; as well as Carol Hammond, whom she considered her second daughter.

She will dearly miss her kind and loving friends, especially Pearl Livitan, Cheryl McMullin, and Lilly Ramirez.  She was grateful for the friendship and professional care she received from the staff at Care One at the Highlands.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions currently in place, a funeral Liturgy for Grace Samo will be celebrated at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church on a day when it is again safe to gather, embrace and celebrate her life.

Interment for Grace Samo was in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia.  Contributions may be made in her memory to Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, PO Box 69, 26 Maple Ave., Fords, NJ 08863.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863.
