Gloria Kanis (nee Babcock), 83, of Edison, died October 7, 2011, at her son's home in Piscataway.
Born January 14,1928 in Metuchen, she resided in Edison for the last 59 years. She graduated Metuchen High School, Class of 1945 and was on the Reunion Committee. She was a Graduate of Rider University, Class of 1949. She taught kindergarten at the Creative Nursery School in Highland Park and was a Sunday school teacher at the Stelton Baptist Church. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and she worked with Literary Volunteers of America.
She was predeceased by her husband Johannes Kanis Jr., to whom she was married for 62 years, in 2010. Gloria is survived by her son, Kim A. Kanis and his wife Sue of Piscataway; two daughters: Lonny Tanel and her husband Tom of College Station, TX and April McCarthy and her husband William of Windsor, VT.; six grandchildren: Christopher, Rebecca, Daniel, Jordan, Aliza and Matthew and her brother, Harold Babcock Jr., of Ohio.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 10, 2011, from 3:00-7:00 pm at the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen.
