Giovanna Vescera, 76, of Metuchen, passed away at JFK Medical Center on January 17, 2022. She was born on August 22, 1945, in Ragusa, Sicily. Giovanna was the Secretary for the Guidance Department at Elizabeth High School for 40 years. She was a graduate of Battin High School in Elizabeth, Class of 1963. Giovanna was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church and a member of the Ladies Italian Club of Elizabeth. She enjoyed dancing at weddings and parties. Giovanna loved music and cooking.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Michael Vescera, of Metuchen; a son, Peter Vescera, and his wife, Rita, of East Hanover; a daughter, Michele Scala, and her husband, Antonio, of Poughkeepsie, NY; five grandchildren: Isabella, Michael, Vincenzo, Matteo, and Gian Luca; and a brother, Mario Gurrieri, and his wife, Jenny, of Metuchen.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 20, 2022, 3-7 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863. Funeral Services will begin Friday 11 am at the funeral home followed by an 11:30 am Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Church. Entombment will be in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Giovanna's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
