Gilbert Donald Lehrer, age 86 passed away December 3, 2015. Born in Hillside, New Jersey to Roselle and Samuel Lehrer, he attended Hillside High School. After graduation he enlisted in, and proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. After honorable discharge and receiving two medals, he met his devoted wife, Ethel Carfin of Newark, NJ. The couple celebrated sixty five years of marriage this past May.

He attended Seton Hall University. After college, he went on to own his first business, the Oak Tree Sweet Shoppe, in Edison, NJ. An entrepreneur, he then started the Manufactures Fabric Outlet chain of stores, which he eventually consolidated to one store, McGowan's Fabric Outlet in Elizabeth NJ, and diligently ran it for forty five years.

He was the most devoted husband and father there ever was. His wife and children, his grandchildren and great grandchild were his entire world. He is survived by his wife Ethel, his sons, Elliott, Jeffrey, Garry, and Todd; daughter-in-laws, Lori, Esta, and Melissa; grandchildren, Jennifer, Alex, Stephanie, Michael, Elia, Samantha, Zachary, Nicole and Devin; great grandchild, Ryan; grandson-in-law, Andrew; and by a host of family and friends. Gilbert, an extremely devoted family man and friend, will be immensely missed.

Shiva will be held at the residence of Elliott Lehrer in Old Bridge on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 9 PM. Family and friends gathering Monday 6 PM to 9PM at residence of Elliott Lehrer.

A military funeral will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd., Wrightstown, NJ. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Flynn and son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords.
