Gerald F. "Jerry" Young, of Edison, entered into eternal rest, August 13, 2017, at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was born in Monmouth Jct., and had resided in Edison for the past 60 years.
Jerry retired in 2015 as a Principal with the Edison Township Board of Education. He opened the James Monroe School in 1964, then moved to the Lincoln school, and spent the last 16 years at the John Marshall School. He was the longest acting principal in Edison and the State of NJ. He was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Rutgers University in 1955, and received his Master's in Education in 1961. Jerry was a member of the Edison and NJ State Principals Assn. and the Rutgers and Kean Educational Assn.
He was a communicant of St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen, a member of Knights of Columbus Council #4885 in Edison, a founding member of the JFK Medical Center Board, past President of the Edison Rotary where he received the Paul Harris Award, and a 25 year member of the Clara Barton 1st Aid Squad.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine "Kay" Martinak Young, and his children, Dennis A. Young and his wife, Janis, of South Plainfield and Kathryn "KJ" Deleski and her husband, John, of Edison.
Visitation is Wednesday from 4-8 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Francis Cathedral.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to St. Francis School or Keith Wald Johnson Child Care Center (Hartwyck), 1040 Oak Tree Road, Edison.
