Obituary

George J. Tkacs, age 100, died peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 24, 2021, in Eagle, ID.

George is survived by his children from his first marriage, Thomas G. Tkacs, of Charleston, SC; Rita (Tkacs) Egert, of Boise, ID; Claire (Tkacs) Oravsky, of Billings, MT; and Donna Tkacs  of Helmetta, NJ; and grandchildren Joan Tkacs, Eric Oravsky and Neil Oravsky as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margeret (Palichak) Tkacs, of Perth Amboy, NJ; his second wife, Vera Tyluki, of Red Bank, NJ; and his siblings, Ann Bayer, Marie Flynn, Elizabeth Seeman, Henry Tkacs, Catherine Youngberg, and Teresa Dickson.

George was born on August 5, 1921, in Perth Amboy, NJ, to parents John Francis Tkacs and Anna (Melaga) Tkacs. He graduated from Perth Amboy HS in 1939.  In 1942 he joined the navy and trained as a pharmacist's mate at Annapolis, MD, where he served for the duration of the war on the Admiral's staff aboard the USS Bayfield and the USS Mount McKinley, participating in both the European and Pacific Theaters. After the war, George eventually went to work at the Post Office in Perth Amboy where he worked until his retirement.

George was a good family man and a loving father. He married Margie Sept. 6, 1951, in Perth Amboy where they raised 4 children together.  After Margie's passing in 1988, George met Vera Tyluki. They were married Nov. 16. 1996. George was well loved by all of Vera's children.

George was a devout Catholic who also loved a joke and a good laugh. He was particularly obsessed with following Notre Dame Football for the majority of his life. He always enjoyed watching sports of any kind and took great pleasure in traveling to his ship's reunions.  We fondly recall the trip we took with him to the WWII memorial in Washington, DC for his 90th birthday. His family and friends will always remember him as a kind and happy person.

The Tkacs family would like to thank Paramount Park Assisted Living of Eagle, ID for taking such good care of George for the past 6 years. We would also like to thank Lighthouse Hospice & Palliative Care of Meridian, Idaho for helping guide us through these last few months of George's life.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, at Holy Trinity Cemetery, S. Florida Grove Rd, Perth Amboy, NJ. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate George's life.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863.
