George A. Hanson, 95, of Middlesex, entered into eternal rest Friday September 2, 2011, at the Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.
George was born in Perth Amboy and was formerly of Parlin before moving to Middlesex 15 years ago. He was a graduate of South River High School and had attended classes at Rutgers University. He served his country in the Army during WW II, then worked as a pay master with DuPont in Parlin for 42 years before retiring in 1979.
George was a former member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Parlin before moving to Middlesex and joining All Saint's Lutheran Church in Piscataway. He served as Council Treasurer and was a member of the Sociable Saints. He was also a member of the Philo Lodge #243 F & AM in South River for more than 65 years. He was a truly dignified gentleman with a great sense of humor, who above all else loved his family and friends. He was an accomplished artist and enjoyed tending his garden and spending time at the shore.
George was predeceased by the love of his life, Mary Dawson Hanson, who died in 1955; his older sister, Pearl Heindle, in 1972; and his younger sister, La Verne McCormack, in 1996. He is survived by his 2 nieces, Judith Ann McCormack and her partner Patricia Weigel of Middletown, and Carol Lee Perko and her husband Ed; his great- niece and nephew, Karen Frances and Warren Edward Perko who affectionately called him their beloved "Pop Pop" with whom he resided in Middlesex; and his nephew, William A. Heindle and his wife Barbara of Wall.
Visitation is Monday, September 5, 2011, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm at the FLYNN AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at 11:00 am at All Saint's Lutheran Church, 5205 Deborah Dr., Piscataway. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery in South Amboy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to the All Saint's Lutheran Church or the Hospice/ Palliative Care unit at Somerset Medical Center.
