Obituary

George M. Flannary, Jr., 67, of Edison died September 4, 2010, at JFK Medical Center in Edison.

Born in Newark on July 11, 1943, he had resided in Highland Park before moving to Edison 28 years ago. He worked for Bendix Aerospace from 1965 to 1972. While there, he helped design and build the guidance system for the Lunar Modular and Saturn 5 Rocket. In later years, he worked for Technical Wire Products in Cranford, retiring in 1999. George was a four-year veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1961-1965. He was a member of St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church and choir. He was also a coach for Edison baseball.

George is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary (Leffhalm); his son, George IV of Edison and his fiance, Katherine Dixon; 2 daughters: Patricia Newton and her husband Richard of Middlesex, and Margaret (Peggy) Flannary and her husband James Miller of Edison; 3 grandchildren: Cassandra, Theodore, and Logan; 1 sister, Adeline (Kathy) DeWoolf of Inglis, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9:15 AM on Thursday, September 9, 2010 from FLYNN AND SON/KOYEN FUNERAL HOME, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen, NJ followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Service at St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3145 Park Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
