Genevieve Patricia Kiyak (nee Karwecki) 92, died peacefully on December 28, 2024, at Cedar Hill Continuing Care Community in Windsor, VT.
Born in Carteret, NJ, Genevieve attended the Holy Family School and graduated from Carteret High School. Learning dance at an early age, she traveled to many cities including New York to perform. After high school, Genevieve was a sewer for the Carteret Shirt Company. She married Albert Kiyak, her devoted husband for 57 years who also loved to dance with her.
Genevieve left her job to stay at home and lovingly raise their two daughters Gail and Karen, and they moved to Fords where they lived for 45 years. Genevieve was an avid homemaker, decorator, and cook who loved family get-togethers, birthdays, holidays, Sunday drives, and vacations. She volunteered as a librarian at the King George Road School #7 in Fords. She and Albert spent much time with their grandchildren, always attending their recitals and sports events. They moved to Hillsborough and Genevieve was active in the senior community attending their meetings, exercise classes, and shopping trips. She enjoyed watching the NY Yankees and TV game shows.
Genevieve was predeceased by her beloved husband Albert, her parents Joseph and Catherine Kawesky and her brothers Edward and Richard Karwecki.
Genevieve leaves behind her daughters Gail Abel and her husband Jack of Stockbridge, Vermont and Karen DeSantis and her husband Dave of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Her loving grandchildren are Alex DeSantis, Simone DeSantis (married to Chris Mikkin,) Jason Abel (Jessica Abel,) Heather Abel (Pete Bartoli,) and great-grandchildren Nate, Cole, Will, and Kira. She is also survived by her sister Alice Baldwin and her brother-in-law Howard, her sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4, at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Internment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, January 3 from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made by mail in memory of Genevieve Kiyak to: The Village at Cedar Hill, Memory Care Unit, 92 Cedar Hill Drive, Windsor VT 05089.
