Gary A. Kroop, 88, of Edison, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025. He was born in Perth Amboy to Louis and Claire Kroop (nee Stepacoff) on January 12, 1936. He attended Ohio University for his undergraduate studies. After receiving his bachelor's degree, he attended New York Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor. Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He met and married his beloved wife, Marsha Smilen Kroop, in 1963. In 1968, they moved to Edison, where they raised two children. Gary practiced law in Perth Amboy and retired at age 72. He was a member of the Middlesex County Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Gary leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Marsha; his son, Evan Smilen Kroop of Arlington, MA; his daughter, Sloan Kroop-Zakheim and her husband, Alan, of New York City; his two beloved granddaughters, Brett and Nadine; and his brother, Howard Kroop of Woodbury, NJ.

A cryptside service under the direction of Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Friends and family should meet at the Administrative Office of Beth Israel Cemetery at 10:45 AM for an 11:00 AM procession to the site.
