Obituary

Fredda Lea (Goldstein) Robinson, formerly of Perth Amboy, Metuchen, and New Brunswick, NJ, died peacefully on July 5th at the age of 99 in her apartment at the Willows Retirement Community in Bellingham, WA. She was blessed to have been able to share her active mind, body and spirit with family and friends well into her last week of life. She was predeceased by her husband David, son Joe and brother Jimmy. She is survived by sons Alan (Lynne) and Doug (Janice Martin), former daughter-in-law Vivian Robinson, and grandchildren Daniel, Adam, Jared, Braden, Eli and Jessie and great-grandchildren Zoe, Sam, Avery and Parker.

Fredda was born in Perth Amboy, NJ to Irving and Victoria (Metzendorf) Goldstein, and into a large extended family. She attended Perth Amboy public schools (Class of 1943) and Beth Mordechi synagogue and graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts from Syracuse University (1947). Immediately following graduation, she applied her art to creating designs for a Manhattan wallpaper manufacturer.

That same year she met David Robinson, also of Perth Amboy. They married, moved to Metuchen, where they lived together for the next 57 years. During that time Fredda obtained a master's degree in art education and taught elementary art for 19 years in the New Brunswick and Edison Township schools.

Fredda actively engaging in civic, school and synagogue affairs throughout her adult life. Among those activities were cub scout den mother, library board member, member of the choir and president of the Neve Shalom synagogue sisterhood, a founder of the Metuchen Street Fair, and tutor to Russian-Jewish immigrants. For 27 years and into her 90s, she was a docent at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University. On moving to the Willows in Bellingham, to be close to Doug, Janice and Eli, she became an active member of that community.

Fredda maintained a lifelong love of and participation in the arts. She was a painter, potter and weaver of considerable skill and artistry. She found joy in visiting museums, attending theatre and concerts and sharing those interests with others, particularly her grandchildren. She loved to read, was a lifelong learner and enjoyed bridge to the very end.

In addition to her children and their families, she enjoyed close relationships with cousins, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and friends.

Friends are invited to join the family as Fredda's ashes are interred at a graveside service Thursday October 23rd at 11 AM at the Beth Mordechi Cemetery, 387 Florida Grove Road, Perth Amboy. Donations in Fredda's memory may be made to Temple Neve Shalom, 250 Grove Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840, Congregation Beth Israel, 751 San Juan Blvd, Bellingham, WA 98229, or a charity or organization of one's choosing.
