Frank Varga III, better known to friends and family as "Butch," passed away August 10, 2025, at Saint Peters Hospital in New Brunswick at the age of 80.
Frank was born on June 16, 1945, in Perth Amboy, NJ, to Frank and Edna Varga. After leaving high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964, was stationed in Germany prior to being deployed to Vietnam from September of 1966 to September of 1967. Throughout his time there, he served in the 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division "The Big Red One," where he received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He also received the Army Commendation medal for Meritorious Achievement in the Republic of Vietnam.
After being honorably discharged, Frank began his career as a Dock Builder Local Union 1456 (heavy construction) following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, beginning a 38 year career. Throughout his career not only did he help build America, he also built a family.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara; son Frank and his wife, Yasmin; son Brian; and his four grandchildren.
Relatives and close friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 7:00-9:00 PM at Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863. Cremation will be private.
