Foster P. "Smitty" Smith, III, 81, of Edison, NJ, passed unexpectedly on Friday, February 10, 2023, while visiting his brother in Florida.  Born in Bayonne, NJ, he lived in Green Brook and Dunellen, NJ, before settling in Edison, 43 years ago.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1961 - 1965.  He was a retired Computer Programmer for Wakefern Foods Corp. in Edison, where he worked for over 20 years.

Foster enjoyed socializing and being active; his smile and energy always lit up the room. He enjoyed playing pool with friends as well as with the Piscataway Senior Center and the Dunellen Pool League and was a longtime member of the APA. He regularly went to the gym and set 4 world records with the 100% Raw Powerlifting Federation in 2017. He was recently awarded 3 medals for his performance in swimming and pool at the 2022 NJ Senior Olympics.  He was an active member of Edison Elks Lodge #2487.  He was an avid NY Yankees baseball and Minnesota Vikings football fan.  More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to Sunday dinners.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy S. Smith, who died in September of 2014; his parents, Helen and Foster P. Smith, Jr.; and his sister, Gail Zitzman (nee Smith).

He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Danielle Findley and her husband, George, with whom he resided; his beloved son, Foster P. Smith, IV, of Nutley, NJ; his three beloved grandchildren: Jaleena and Karma Findley and Foster P. Smith V; his brothers, Robert P. Smith and his wife, Kathy, of New Jersey and Michael Smith and his fiancée, Laura Stanton, of Florida.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave. Fords, NJ 08863.  Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 10 am from the Flynn and son Funeral Home, followed by a 10:30 am Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords.  Entombment will follow in Clover Leaf Memorial Park Mausoleum, Woodbridge.
