Obituary

Felicia Antonelli Holton, 91, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2013, in Canaan, CT. She was born in Flushing, NY, on November 28, 1921, to Victor and Lucy Anthenelli and was raised in Flushing, NY; Finderne, NJ; and Dunellen, NJ.

She graduated from Flushing High School with the Class of 1938.
She served as a W.A.C. in World War II and used the G.I. bill to attend the University of Chicago, graduating in 1950. Felicia had a long, distinguished career as a journalist, editor, and author. Her many accomplishments included:

• As a pioneer in women's rights, she was the first woman to have a front-page byline in the Wall Street Journal, and throughout her career fought to be assigned feature and news stories instead of fashion and homemaking.

• She was the Editor-in-Chief of The University of Chicago Alumni Magazine from 1955 to 1959, winning the prestigious Sibley Award for Alumni Magazine of the year in 1957. She returned to that post for a second time in the early 80s.

• In 1979, she wrote Koster: Americans in Search of Their Prehistoric Past with Dr. Stuart Struever.
• In 1985, she wrote Compukids: A Parents Guide to Computers and Learning.

In 2010, The Archaeological Institute of America created the Felicia A. Holton Book Award, in recognition of her groundbreaking role of bringing the field of Archaeology to the general public.

Felicia was married to James T. Holton in 1959, and then again in 1973. They had one daughter, Lisa Maria Holton, in 1961.

She is predeceased by her husband, James Holton; her brothers: Tony Anthenelli, Mickey Anthenelli, Victor Anthenelli, and Jamesie Anthenelli; and her sister, Marie Calabrese.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Holton; grandchildren: Kate Gibbel and James Gibbel; her sister, Catherine Wright; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 12 Noon at the Flynn and son/ Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840.
