Obituary

Evelyn Lazaro Sulenski passed away peacefully at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida.
Evelyn was born the third of nine children in Obando, Bulacan, Philippines, and graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Education.
In the Philippines, she was a high school teacher and later a stenographer for the Valenzuela Court House.
She was known for her kindness, beauty, and generosity to others.
She immigrated to the United States in 1980, where she was a Medical Coder at St. Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick.
In 1985, she worked at Bamburger's/Macy's in the fine jewelry department where she met her husband, Brian.
She was a top sales associate who received several accolades over the years.
They settled in the house her husband was raised in, in the Clara Barton section of Edison, New Jersey, where she resided for 24 years.
In 1992, she suffered from a brain aneurysm and also required open heart surgery. She recovered and went on to raise her son, Christopher.
Her family and her son were everything to her, and she was the source of news for many, routinely keeping in touch with family and friends.
She cared for the children in the neighborhood and volunteered at James Monroe Elementary School.
In 2010, she moved to Palm Coast, Florida, where she enjoyed entertaining guests, morning coffees looking at the ocean, traveling with her brothers and sisters, gardening, line dancing, baking, and playing dominoes with friends.
In 2017, she suffered from a stroke that left her paralyzed on her left side.
Her son cared for her in their home, in Jacksonville, Florida, until her passing with the help of family and her caregiver, Celita Cahill.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Brian, in 1992. She is survived by her loving son Christopher.

Friends may call at Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm where funeral services will begin on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 9:00am.  A funeral mass will be offered at 9:30am at Our Lady of Peace Church, Fords, followed by entombment in St. Gertrude Cemetery Mausoleum, Colonia.
