Evelyn Dorothy
Baumley
August 1, 1927 – October 2, 2023
Evelyn Dorothy (Britske) Baumley passed away peacefully on October 2, 2023, at the age of 96. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Michael J. and her son Michael S., her brother Howard Britske and sister Mildred (Millie) Petro. She is survived by her children Robert Baumley (Pamela), Jeffrey Baumley and Judith Palughi (Frank). Evelyn was also blessed with grandchildren Brian Baumley (Abbey), Stephen Baumley (Melissa), Sara Palughi, Michael Palughi, Megan Blasi (Michael), Jennifer Baumley and Emily Baumley as well as great-grandchildren Alex, Benjamin, Katie, Olivia, Cameron and Nikolas. She is also survived by her brother Theodore (Teddy) Britske.
Evelyn (affectionately known as Ellie to her family) was born in Perth Amboy, NJ to Benjamin and Anna Britske. She met her husband Michael (Mickey) at a local church bazaar while out with friends. They married in 1950 and built a beautiful home in Hopelawn to raise their four children. Evelyn was an avid gardener throughout her life and enjoyed making delicious meals using the vegetables grown in her garden, especially zucchini, rhubarb and tomatoes. She spent many hours in her kitchen stewing and canning vegetables, pickling cucumbers, and preparing jams and sauces which she often shared with family and friends. Evelyn was an excellent baker and was always excited to try new recipes. One thing that was a constant in her kitchen was a delicious home-made cake under the cake dish every week.
After dedicating her early years of marriage to her family, she went to work at Middlesex County College (MCC) in 1969, only a few months before her husband Mickey passed away. She was a secretary initially in the Nursing Education Department, then expanded her expertise in the Radiography Education Department. Evelyn was dedicated, hard-working and well-respected by her colleagues and professors at the College. It was truly a community of people she enjoyed being with and formed many friendships during her time there. In the 1970s, Evelyn took on an additional profession as an "AVON Lady" and, as with her job at the College, excelled to become a member of the "Presidents Club" and received many sales service awards. In 1994, after 25 years of dedicated service at MCC, Evelyn retired and continued to enjoy gardening, crocheting and spending countless hours helping at Baumley Nursery. In 2000 she moved to Hamilton Square, NJ then in 2017 to Jackson, NJ. She was a devoted parishioner of Holy Spirit Church, Perth Amboy, NJ and St. Gregory the Great Church, Hamilton Square, NJ.
Evelyn will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. As a mom, she was the best role model children could ever hope to have. She worked hard, never complained and was a beacon of strength to her family throughout her life. It was not easy being a widow at the age of 41 and starting a new career outside of the home, but she always said she did what she had to do, which is a testament to her strength, endurance and commitment to making the best life possible for herself and her children. We will miss her deeply and will find comfort in our memories and knowing that she is now at peace and can rest her head on a cloud.
There will be a memorial visitation for family and friends to gather and remember Evelyn on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords. A memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, October 13, 2023 at at 11:00am at the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church / Good Shepherd Parish, 625 Florida Grove Rd., Hopelawn.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a monetary donation in Evelyn's name to a local food pantry or charity of your choice.
