Obituary

Emma K. Aseltta, of Monroe Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Bridgeport CT and had resided in Clearbrook Community of Monroe Township for 18 years.

Emma was a Licensed Funeral Director and Mortuary Officer for the Department of U.S. Army and U.S Air Force from 1967- 1992, retiring in 1992 with a GS equivalent of a Lieutenant Colonel. She was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, McAllister School of Embalming, Smithsonian School of Anthropology and FBI School of Fingerprinting. In 1974 she was named the Federal Woman of the Year while assigned with the US Army at Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, NY. She served with the Army at Dover AFB, Dover, Delaware and in 1997 was assigned with the Air Force's 313 AD, 18th Combat Support Group, Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, Japan. She was the first woman to be assigned as Mortuary Officer to military overseas command. She was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Presidential Citation.

Emma was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Boy Scouts of Nippon, was awarded the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, District Commissioner's Award, Woodbadge trained, member of the Order of Arrow and staffed many World and National Boy Scout Jamborees. She was also a member of the Soroptimist International of Brooklyn NY and Okinawa, Japan and a member of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana. Upon her return to the states she became active with the American Red Cross Blood Donor Program and the Red Cross Military Emergency, American Indian Girl and Boy Scout Association, the US Army Quartermaster Corps, Ft. Lee, VA and various committees at Clearbrook Community and NARFE.

She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony J. Aseltta who died in 1959.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Susan of Fords, NJ, her granddaughters, Julie and her companion, London Jones of Edison and Amy of Fords, her constant companions for the last 7 months, Jake and Wagner, her granddogs.
