Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) M. Ruoti, 87, of Edison, passed away Monday, March 15, 2021.

Born in Trumbull, CT to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Flynn, Betty was one of five children. She was raised in the Bronx and pursued and earned her Undergraduate Degree from Hunter College and her Master's Degree in Education at SUNY New Paltz.

In 1965 Betty and her family moved from Rockaway, New York to New City, New York. She worked for many years as an educator; first as a Chemistry Professor at Hunter College, then for the Clarkstown Central School District, retiring from Woodglen Elementary School in 1985.

She enjoyed her retirement years in Florida from 1985 to 2005 where she volunteered as a Neonatal Pediatric Cuddler at St. Mary's Hospital and she was a Guardian Ad Litem for Palm Beach County. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and traveling often with her friends. She loved having her grandchildren visit her. Betty was a great sport taking her grandchildren on many visits to the Rapids waterpark and the beach.

Betty was an incredibly brave and strong woman; after being diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2004, she focused all her energy on her recovery. In 2005, she moved to New Jersey to live with her daughter, Peggy and her family.

Betty is predeceased by her husband, Armand Ruoti, her daughter, Elizabeth Coletta, her sisters, Eileen Taylor and Cathy Power, and her brother, William Flynn.

Betty is survived by her children, Peggy Russo and husband Paul, Chris Kelly and wife Pauline and Gregg Ruoti and wife Laura; her grandchildren, Kate (Guy) Couture, Nicole Coletta, Lauren (Jay) Tan, Scott Kelly, Christine (Frank) Talio, Amanda Russo, Jake Russo and Cailin Ruoti; her great-grandchildren, Elisa, Matteo and Nico Tan and Jackie, Avery and Emmy Talio; her son-in-law, Vito Coletta; her sister, Patricia McKeon and husband Jack and her God children Eileen Taylor, James Buckley and Chris Mckeon and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
