Elizabeth "
Betty " Puskas
January 8, 1922 – April 19, 2023
Elizabeth Puskas, known to family and friends as Betty, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023, at the age of 101. Born on January 8, 1922, in Perth Amboy NJ, she was one of 6 children born to Helen and Nicholas Chizmadia.
Betty lived a long and fulfilling life. She attended many dances as a teenager, and met the love of her life, Eugene Puskas, at one of those dances. They went on to marry and share their lives with their two beloved children. She was a hard-working woman, who managed a cafeteria in Conair Corporation for many years and later worked in the cafeteria at J.M. Huber Corporation, where she was loved by her customers and developed lifelong friendships. She also was an active congregant of Good Shephard (Holy Spirit) Catholic Church in Perth Amboy, NJ. She relished hosting summer picnics at her home and would often stay up all night cooking her legendary stuffed cabbage, potato salad, sausage and peppers, meatballs, and other goodies.
Betty's favorite pastime was holding court in her home, where she would make a pot of chicken soup for anyone who stopped by to chat. In her later years, she also enjoyed the occasional trip to Atlantic City with friends and family. As a person, she was loving, funny, kind, strong, fiesty, and independent. She also faced a lot of heartache in her life, losing her husband when he was very young, and losing her son later as well. As she aged, she developed many physical disabilities. Yet, her strong and independent spirit allowed her to persevere and continue to live life to the fullest even in the face of adversity. Because of this spirit, she was able to live in the home that she loved until she was 100 years old.
Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, Eugene F Puskas, and her dear son, Mark Puskas. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Michael Mashel, her step-grandchildren Ben Mashel and Brittany Mashel, as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful people who have been a part of her life and care over the years. Her extended family and close friends, along with some very special caregivers, sustained her spirits throughout her journey. We are grateful to every one of you.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday April 26, 2023, from 5 p.m to 8 p.m in the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue Fords, NJ 08863, where everyone will have the opportunity to celebrate Betty's life and say goodbye.
