Eleanor Lowell, 86, of Hightstown, passed away peacefully at Meadow Lakes on April 6, 2018, after a long illness.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, and formerly of Edison, Monroe Township, and Somerset, she resided in Hightstown since 2012. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Arthur Lowell, who died in March 2016, and her parents, Jay and Helen (Shankroff) Fain.
Eleanor leaves behind her two beloved daughters, Barbara Schwedel and her husband Don of Colonia, and Carol Levine of Monroe Township, and her beloved son, Stewart Lowell and his wife Gloria of Bethlehem, PA, along with her five cherished grandchildren, Jonathan and Heather Schwedel, Audrey Levine and her fiancé Todd Menszak, and Elana and Luke Lowell. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends.
Along with the family and friends that she loved, she touched the lives of hundreds of children. A graduate of Douglass College in New Brunswick, Eleanor was a retired elementary school teacher, first with Evergreen School in Plainfield in the early 1950s, and then later at Menlo Park Elementary School in Edison from 1969 through 1991.
Eleanor enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, was an avid reader, and participated actively in her retirement communities, notably in the drama groups and Brandeis National Committee. She loved music, particularly Broadway show tunes, and took singing lessons after she retired.
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, April 9, 2018, gathering at 11:15 a.m. behind the office of Beth Israel Memorial Park, on the corner of US HWY 1 and Woodbridge Center Drive in Woodbridge, NJ 07095. Arrangements are under the direction of the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, Fords NJ, 08863.
