Edward J.
Seaman
February 20, 1937 – July 20, 2021
Edward J. Seaman, of Edison, passed away on July 20 at the age of 84.
Born in Perth Amboy to Edward and Mary (Liston) Seaman, he attended Perth Amboy High School where he met his wife Yolanda in Spanish class and where he excelled in both basketball and baseball. His fondness for Perth Amboy High School continued to the present day as he generously helped with reunions.
He obtained his undergraduate degree from Princeton University in 1958, where he was also the pitcher and captain of the Tiger's baseball team as well as an officer in the Cannon Club. His friendships at Princeton were lifelong and he often attended Princeton sporting events as well as the class of '58 reunions. He graduated from the University of Virginia Law School in 1961. He was a commissioned Captain in the US Army Reserves and then entered private law practice in Perth Amboy with his uncle. He also served as legal counsel to several municipal planning boards.
In 1976 he was the youngest attorney to be appointed as a Judge by the Governor of NJ to the Superior Court in Middlesex County. He retired from the bench in 1993 at which time he began a successful second career adjudicating arbitrations and mediations. In addition to being an avid sports fan, he enjoyed spending summers in Bermuda and Aruba with his family.
Edward was predeceased by his parents Edward and Mary, his wife Yolanda (Magro) and his son David. He leaves behind his daughter, MaryAnn Matthiessen who loved to challenge his vast knowledge, his youngest daughter, Ann Seaman who was his primary caregiver, and who compassionately cared for him every day, successfully honoring his wishes to remain in the home he loved and his grandsons, Christopher and Ryan Matthiessen who possibly taught their grandpa as much as he taught them.
