Edward "Sonny"
A. Homann, Sr.
October 22, 1938 – March 29, 2024
Edward A. "Sonny" Homann, Sr., 85, of Edison, passed away on March 29, 2024, at JFK Medical Center, Edison with family by his side. Sonny was born October 22,1938, at home in Metuchen, to William and Hilda (nee Clarman) Homann. He was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School in 1958. Sonny was a veteran, serving his country faithfully in the US Army and then went on to become the Manager of Vincz's Food and Liquors in the Clara Barton section of Edison for 50 years.
Sonny was a jack of all trades. Carpenter, plumber, painter, mason, electrician, roofer, mechanic, if it was buildable or repairable, he would take it on. He coached little league baseball at North Edison and was a board member of the North Edison Shamrocks pop warner teams. He built cars and drag raced in the early 60's with his best friend Paul. He built and rode motorcycles and is the reason his nephews and son are lifelong riders. It was a motorcycle ride with Paul to Ocean Gate, NJ, where he met the love of his life Jane, because of a rainstorm and the need to shelter the bikes. He was a set builder and transportation assistant for Kaye-Lynn Dance Studio, and the Encore Ensemble dance program while his daughter participated as a member and for years after. Sonny loved to garden, fish, tinker, travel in their trailer and go to the races. He loved his Giants, Yankees, NHRA, and Harley-Davidson. Most of all he loved his wife and children, grandchildren, family and dear friends.
Sonny was predeceased by his wife, Jane (1998); his parents William and Hilda; his brothers, sisters and spouses, Billy(Jean), Jack(Elinor), Bob(Connie), Ethel(Calvin) and Hilda(John); sister-in-law his Arlene Zuschnitt; niece, Christine; and nephews, Jimmy and Bobby;
Sonny is survived by his son, Edward A. Homann, Jr. (Lynn), his daughter, Julia Homann (Tom Veglia), and his five grandchildren, Allysa Jane, Dylan, Parker, Nicholas and Carson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his lifelong friends Paul and Joyce Deschesne, and Bob Pouhan.
