Obituary

Edith M. Elko, 99, formerly of Fords, died on Thursday March 24, 2011, at the Parker Home in New Brunswick.

She was born on February 16, 1912, to Edith and Edgar Greene in Philadelphia, PA. Edith resided in Philadelphia for a few years before moving to Perth Amboy and then to Fords. She attended Woodbridge Township schools and graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1929. After graduation, she went onto St. Mary's Hall in Burlington, NJ. She graduated from St. Mary's in 1931.

She was a past-President of the Woman's Club of Fords; she took leukemia patients for treatments to New York City for 5 years; she was the Organist and Choir Director at St John's Episcopal Church in Fords for 35 years and delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. She was employed as a school bus driver for the Curcio Bus Co. in Edison and drove for Woodbridge and Edison students for 25 years before retiring in 1986.

Edith was married to Nicholas Elko in 1934, a marriage that was to last for 65 years, until his death in 2000. Mrs. Elko was also predeceased by her daughter, Joan Elko Drost, who died in 2007.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Beaumont, with whom she resided in Dayton; her 6 grandchildren: Donald R. Drost, Jr., Scott Drost, Pamela Flynn, Kenneth Drost, Denise Fuzak, and Daniel Beaumont, Jr.; 11 great- grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 11:15 am from the FLYNN AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ, followed by a Service of Requiem at 12 noon at St. James Episcopal Church in Edison, with Rev. William Gerhart officiating.

Interment will follow in Clover Leaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Monday, March 28, 2011, from 2:00-4:00 pm & 7:00-9:00 pm.
